Rachel Ruckstuhl-Mann: Elemental Contact Improvisation

This is a beginners workshop for contact improvisation with a special focus on using the natural environment, both as inspiration for movement exploration and as a partner to contact with.

“Contact Improvisation is an open-ended exploration of the kinaesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes quiet and meditative, it is a form open to all bodies and enquiring minds.” Ray Chung workshop London 2009.

This workshop will cover some simple techniques of contact improvisation and somatic movement inquiry. We will develop spatial awareness in relation to others, gravity, and the the ground, sensitize ourselves to the possibilities of our moving tissues through imagery and breath, and come into contact with the community and the environment we are dancing with.

We will be contacting not only ourselves and each other, but the elements that surround and infuse us. Be prepared to immerse yourself in the possibilities of your physical and elemental experience with others and the environment.
