Decolonising and Reclaiming Time: Maramataka the Māori Lunar Calendar
Mihi Tibble
Decolonise and reclaim time and space through the Māori lunar system. Learn how to use this indigenous knowledge system within your whare with whānau and in the spaces you occupy with others.
Together we will:
- Exploring time and tohu (signs). Understanding our connection to those things around us and understanding our responsibility and relationship
- The key lunar phases Moving through the phases of the maramataka in understanding the movements of a lunar time
- The Atua (god) of each key phase—understanding the why behind the practices and rituals employed at certain times
- Activities associated with these phases inspired and informed by our atua and tūpuna and the translation of these into everyday spaces.
