As we celebrate 10 years since Earth Beat began, our 7th edition, and our 5th (and likely final) festival at Ātiu Creek, we’re opening a conversation about what comes next.

A Rare and Precious Space
Earth Beat has evolved into something special for many people: a 5-day gathering of several thousand people that spans generations and creates opportunities for genuine connection. In today’s fragmented world, spaces like this have become increasingly rare.
What makes Earth Beat distinctive goes beyond its size or duration. It’s the intentional blending of celebration with growth and discovery—where workshops, music, art, and shared experiences catalyze deeper connections between people and with the land. For five days, we become a small village, a microcosm of what’s possible in the wider world, with diversity across ages, genders, cultures, and backgrounds creating a rich tapestry of human experience. Few gatherings manage to hold this delicate balance while remaining accessible to families, elders, and youth alike.
Earth Beat at a Turning Point
After building momentum over three years at Ātiu Creek, we find ourselves at a threshold. We face several challenges: securing financial sustainability, determining our next home (or navigating a return to Ātiu), and creating structures that nurture rather than deplete our organizing team. Yet within these challenges lie rich possibilities.
What is the essence of Earth Beat that we want to carry forward? How might we preserve its unique qualities while allowing it to evolve?
