Meditational drumming
Ross Angell
This workshop will focus on expression through drumming. We will start by tuning into the 4 elements, then I will guide you on a journey where you will join with a power animal and then complete the journey by regrounding. You will find your own rhythm that flows through you, while I hold space, vocally guiding the journey and maintaining a strong rhythm myself. For the outro we will form a circle and I will talk about history and culture of the djembe & explain this is not a traditional practise however we still honour the drums we use. You will experience different animals, emotions, obstacles and joy along the way. I try not to go too deep or too far in any one direction, as it can be too much for some. So I balance joy, lightness, courage, obstacles and allow for growth. I have witnessed the drums healing and transformational properties as they energise and ground people relieving tension and stress and can open pathways to spirit and feeling. We are individuals but community is created as the rhythm unites us all and there is an unspoken unseen bond that links us together.
I have always loved drumming and from starting to drum at the age of 10 my mind has worked rhythm into things I do from driving to walking to washing up, even when I’m meant to be getting kids to bed! I live in the far north with my lovely 2 kids and amazing wife. Drumming is a massive part of my life it energises me, it uplifts me and it keeps the neural pathways working & developing. It has helped me through tough times and given me hope during those periods. Someone once told me “Community is the most important thing about African drumming”.
