Shifting Consciousness through Nature Engagement: a Solution to Climate Issues
Molly Helfend
While on a walk around the California coastal rocks, I was having a philosophical discussion about passions – mine being my research with entheogens and a friend’s being surfing. We found a commonality, in that when we surrender to the power of nature, we not only heal ourselves, but find meaning in our place on Earth by shifting consciousness. As I have traveled the world working with Indigenous cultures and plants, as well as studying Ecological research, I have confirmed that climate change is a real and honest threat. However, what if solutions could be found through connecting to nature and really FEELING why we should be making more sustainable and smart choices in our daily life? How we can interact with one another and the planet to promote climate justice. Ecopsychology is real if we shift consciousness, through modalities such as psychedelics, ecotherapy, outdoor sport, intentional community based living and more. Let’s have an open dialogue, exploring both my research and positive ways we can shift consciousness and save the planet through connecting to nature.
