Hempcrete Construction
Jo Say
This slideshow presentation with Q&A will give you an overview of what hempcrete is, its qualities, how we build with it and an overview of the houses built so far in Aotearoa, with an international overview.
Hempcrete homes are being built legally here, with local council sign off. In addition to being able to help decarbonise our planet, they create the most healthy homes possible to live in: They have excellent thermal performance, they regulate humidity organically, they are totally non-flammable and they have great seismic capacity.
It is a no-brainer we should be building our houses with hemp!
We have a target of carbon zero for new builds by 2032. But this will only be achieved if kiwi builders learn how to build with carbon zero construction materials.
In this session you can ask questions related to a build you’re considering, you’ll get to hear the latest NZ hempcrete developments, plus you can learn how you could potentially get involved on a hempcrete build or within the industry itself.
Jo set up the Hemp Building Association of NZ in 2019. She helps raise awareness of how building with hempcrete can help mitigate both the climate crisis and Aotearoa’s housing crisis.
