Let’s get growing!
Come and learn some basic growing and plant propagation techniques. We’ll take root and stem cuttings, sow seeds, look at pros’ and cons’ of various propagation material available (compost / potting mix / seed raising mix – including how to make your own). We’ll also discuss native planting techniques, including how to eradicate and/or manage the veracious and ubiquitous kikuyu grass. Promises to be fun, tactile (hands-on), informative and grounding.
Carl Pickens is landscape architect and organic grower with 20+ years experience designing and building gardens with an ecological focus across NZ. He is a past Ellerslie international flower show gold medal winner and a Winston Churchill Fellow. One of his favourite things is regularly visiting the garden to grow, nurture and harvest plants.
